Synopsis by Rose of Sharon Winter

This video is part of a series that looks at the vibrant artist community of Montparnasse in Paris in its heyday from the 1890s through World War II. The café society brought together artists, musicians, and writers, who shared their passions and ideas. Chaim Soutine was one of the artists who lived there and frequented the café scene. The Russian born Soutine was known for his artistic intensity, his expressionistic use of color and brush strokes, and the sometimes disturbing content of his paintings. He is best known for his paintings of choirboys. This episode explores the life and psychology of the man who painted those pictures.
