Originally aired on PBS in 1996 in a series from Masterpiece Theatre, The Fortunes and Misfortunes of Moll Flanders features Alex Kingston as the intrepid Moll. After starting her life as a housemaid, Moll (Kingston) finds herself a live-in whore to her master's brother, and later becomes wife to a man who would only be the first of five husbands, one of which turns out to be her own brother. Unforseen circumstances quickly force Moll into a scheme to marry (again) into wealth, but she herself is taken in by her own plot -- the man she believes is her ticket to high society is a poseur as well. Though the two develop a strong bond despite their mutual deceptions, Moll is eventually left to her own devices once again, and uncovers several shocking family secrets. This miniseries also features Daniel Craig, Diana Rigg, and Ronald Fraser.
