Synopsis by Rose of Sharon Winter

This video is part of a series that profiles some of the greatest authors of modern times. This program takes a look at the seafaring life of British citizen Joseph Conrad, who created such pessimistic works as Lord Jim, The Secret Agent, and Nostromo. Conrad was born in Poland in 1857. He began a life at sea that took him to the West Indies, England, and ultimately to Africa. There he penned his best-known work, Heart of Darkness, on which the film Apocalypse Now is loosely based, dealing with the base impulses that lurk inside the human heart.
