Clive Hubert (Wyndham Standing) wishes to be free of his noble background, but between the death of his older brother and his love for the Duchess of Harwich (Lucy Cotton), he is forced to remain at his family's crumbling estate. The Duchess is married to a worthless old nobleman (Ivo Watson), and when he finds out about her affair with Hubert, he makes her life miserable. Because of his family's dire financial straits, Hubert finally decides to marry a rich American girl, but then the Duke finally dies and, he resolves to marry the Duchess, money be damend. As luck would have it, he lands a very lucrative diplomatic post, and all is well. This picture was based on a novel by Cosmo Hamilton, who was well-known for his stories about the English upper crust.
