Fate forces a simple man to give up one life in search of another in this drama. Dhane (Ranju Lamichhane) is a farmer who lives in a poor rural section of Nepal. While Dhane is always short on money, he's long and pride and isn't afraid to work hard, and against long odds he's managed to keep his land productive and his family fed. However, familial strife becomes intense after one of Dhane's daughters becomes pregnant, and military interference finally drives the family off their farm. Leaving the valley where they've lived all their lives, Dhane, his wife and their children set out in search of better circumstances, but it soon becomes clear that no pot of gold is waiting at the end of their rainbow. Migration (aka Basain) was Nepal's official Foreign Language Film entry for the 2006 Academy Awards.
