Contrary to previously published reports, hulking Elmo Lincoln was being groomed for stardom long before his "breakthrough" picture Tarzan of the Apes. In Might and the Man, Lincoln spent the bulk of his time rescuing heroine Carmel Myers from a veritable army of kidnappers and would-be rapists. Typical of the film's credibility was a scene in which Lincoln handily felled a group of attackers seemingly with a single blow. Perhaps aware that nobody in his or her right mind could take this stuff seriously, the producers packaged Might and the Man as a comedy, and as such it proved successful.
