Synopsis by Hal Erickson

The title of this video cartoon collection is true up to a point: Mickey Mouse may not know "best" compared to you or I, but he's certainly more on top of things than his cohorts Donald Duck, Goofy and Pluto. The best cartoon in this collection is "Mickey's Amateurs," a color reworking of 1934's "The Orphan's Benefit." Donald Duck's attempts to recite "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" are almost as disastrous as Porky Pig's rendition of "The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere" in Warners' I Haven't Got a Hat (1935). As usual, Mickey's dog Pluto is permitted a solo spot, this time in the name-tells-all escapade "Mickey's Elephant." The original release dates of the cartoons in Mickey Knows Best span 1936 through 1937.
