Memphis Homicide Squad (2002)

Synopsis by Hal Erickson
The titular Tennessee crime-fighting unit was scrutinized on this three-part documentary series, reportedly a sequel to the Court TV network's Brooklyn North Homicide Squad. Although the crimefighters, led by personable police detective W.D. Merritt, were obviously sincere and dedicated, they were also capable of dealing with the frustrations of their job with a healthy dose of gallows humor. The two primary cases at hand were covered Cops-style, with hidden cameras and computer-disguised perpetrators abounding. After its initial cable-TV run from April 17 to 19, 2002, Memphis: Homicide Squad received enough critical plaudits to (hopefully) warrant a weekly series.
