Synopsis by Dan Pavlides

An idealistic young lawyer helps his cousin, a young woman, to read in colonial India. When a local magistrate is the victim of British insolence, the lawyer takes the man's case. The attorney loses the case and spends five years in jail for striking a British officer for ruining some fishing nets. Upon his release, he runs into his cousin. The now-widowed mother of one bows to her former teacher in a gesture of thanks for giving her enough education to marry into a wealthy family. The people of India continue their struggle against the oppressive and arrogant British colonials.
