In Matthaus Passion,The Choir of King's College and The Choir of Jesus College, Cambridge, perform the J.S. Bach oratorio of the title, which sets St. Matthew 26-7 to music. The performance in this release took place in 1994, with Stephen Cleobury conducting The Brandenburg Consort; vocalists include tenor Rogers Covey-Crump, bass Michael George, soprano Emma Kirkby, alto Michael Chance, and tenor Martyn Hill. Bach originally designed the work for performance by solo vocalists, double chorus and double orchestra, with alternating chorales and arias. George performs as Jesus, and Covey-Crump as The Evangelist.
