Telecast in the United States as Q.E.D., the British series Mastermind stars Sam Waterston as eccentric professor Quentin E. Deverill, resident of 1912 London. A brilliant inventor, Deverill is an even more accomplished detective. His "Moriarty" is one Dr. Stefan Kilkiss, who wants to-need we say it?--RULE THE WORLD. In the 60-minute Mastermind episode "The Infernal Device", Deverill develops a remote control system, which is promptly stolen by Kilkiss' minions. A heady hybrid of Wild Wild West, Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Who, Mastermind ran in America from March 23 through April 27, 1982.
