Al (Ed O'Neill) receives a whole year's salary--all twelve thousand dollars--to accept early retirement from the shoe store. Alas, Al's retirement last only long enough for Peggy (Katey Sagal) to squander his money, forcing him to return to work as proprietor of Homeplate Athletic Shoes (with a staff named Habib--both of them). Charlene Tilton makes a cameo appearance as herself, selling the Amazing Abdomenizer door to door.
