Synopsis by Nathan Southern
The title of the experimental independent film Marrakech Insallah translates, loosely, as "Marrakesh, God Willing." As directed by Boston-based brothers Steffen and Christian Pierce (The Bride Market of Imilchil), this Arabic language effort was shot on 8mm reversal stock. It tells of a young man named Aziz (Aziz Raddad) who desperately longs to leave his small mountain village for a better life in the city of Marrakesh. In addition to this central story, the film reflects at length on the nature of Moroccan society, as well as the ethical obligations of filmmakers to their respective subjects and the impact of impoverishment and culture on those obligations.
