Synopsis by Hal Erickson
As more and more Iranian films began trickling into the U.S. in the mid-1980s, some proved entertaining enough for widespread distribution. The Mare was one of those lucky films, though it certainly was not given a nationwide saturation treatment. Soosan Taslimi plays a poverty-stricken farm girl whose family forces her into a wealthy marriage. On the eve of the wedding, Soosan escapes her family's grasp in a last-ditch effort to declare her independence. Director Ali Jekan also wrote the scenario for The Mare.
