Synopsis by Eleanor Mannikka
A varied Algerian culture with one foot in the distant past and another in the future finds a decent and sympathetic treatment in this story about the arranged marriage of an 18-year-old woman and a 35-year-old man. He is away studying in Paris, and after the marriage he goes back to school and leaves his now-pregnant wife at home with his family. She, in turn, does not like her mother-in-law and opts to go back to her own parents' home -- a taboo arrangement that has its own social consequences.
