Synopsis by Eleanor Mannikka
This melancholy comedy features Chris (Klaus Rohrmoser), a perennial loser trying to imitate Harry Houdini's escape tricks but rarely succeeding -- though he does not give up, and Mischa (Miodrag Andric), a con artist from Yugoslavia supported by his sister Nada (Nirit Sommerfeld) while he dreams up new ways to make money. Nada herself is hoping to marry her starchy Austrian boyfriend, more for personal gain than any other reason. Between the would-be Houdini's foiled tricks and Mischa's one-liners, the comedy never flags. Malambo was a Grand Prix winner at the 1984 Mannheim Film Festival.
