Per its title, the home video release Mahler: Symphony 4 & 7 spotlights two orchestral performances. The first features Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 4 in G Major, which the composer authored between 1892 and 1900, and revised from 1901 through 1910; it was performed by the Berliner Philharmoniker under the baton of Bernard Haitink at the Schauspielhaus in Berlin, c. December 1991. The second features Mahler's Symphony No. 7 in E Minor, which the composer authored between 1904 and 1905; it was performed by the Berlinker Philharmoniker under the baton of Bernard Haitink at the Philharmonie in Berlin, c. May 1992. Soprano Sylvia McNair provides vocal accompaniment.
