Set one year after the events of the series Macross 7, Macross Dynamite 7 is a four-episode OVA that was released in 1997 to celebrate the 15th birthday of the Macross series. In Dynamite 7, Basara Nekki, lead singer of the Fire Bombers, has decided to celebrate the victory won at the end Macross 7 by wandering space with only his guitar. Basara and his entourage arrive on the remote planet of Zola, where they meet a teenage Zentradi girl who is a huge fan of the Fire Bombers. Her father is a space whaler and, naturally, neither the girl nor the group approve of killing whales, so they all decide to get involved for the sake of space whales everywhere.
