This anime series takes place some 35 years after the events of the original Super Dimensional Fortress Macross series and is perhaps best well known for its musical themes; several CDs are available from the fictional band appearing on the show, the Fire Bombers. The band lives aboard the great spacecraft the Macross 7: a ship traveling great distances through space in the hope of spreading the human race and guarding against the extinction that they nearly faced at the hands of the Zentradi in the first series. It is on this journey that the Macross 7 encounters a malicious alien race called the Protodeviln. The goal of these aliens is to steal the life force from the creatures they encounter. The ensuing conflict is dealt with by an array of characters, all of whom have somewhat elaborate personal lives that are revealed throughout the course of the series. Among the important characters is lead vocalist of the Fire Bombers, Basara Nekki. Basara does not believe in physical violence and relies on the intimate power of his voice to subdue any would-be attackers, a popular theme in the "Macross" franchise.
