Synopsis by Nathan Southern

Rap wunderkind Ludacris (aka Christopher Bridges) -- fresh from a career as a radio jockey -- skyrocketed to the top of the charts at the dawn of the new millennium, initially surfacing with his self-released album Incognegro. After signing with the Def Jam label, Ludacris rode a wave of success unseen by any of his contemporaries in the Dirty South rap explosion whose mecca was Atlanta. Much as Tupac: Resurrection did for Tupac Shakur, the documentary Ludacris: Southern Smoke explores the myth surrounding the gifted rapper Ludacris. It explores his origins, his sudden rise to fame, and his wildly ambitious decision to forge boldly ahead into new waters, such as his newfound career as a film actor, with co-starring roles in Hustle & Flow and the highly acclaimed ensemble drama Crash.
