Synopsis by Nathan Southern

The Teatro Regio di Parmo mounted Gaetano Donizetti's 1835 opera Lucia di Lammermoor in 1986 with a cast that included Giorgio Zancanaro (as Lord Enrico Ashton), Luciana Serra (as Miss Lucia), Alfredo Kraus (as Sir Edgardo di Ravenswood), and L'Orchestra Sinfonica dell'Emilia-Romagna providing musical accompaniment. The production was filmed and is presented live in this home release. Lucia's narrative gestalt is by now overly familiar given the frequency with which the opera is revived. An adaptation of the novel The Bride of Lammermoor by Sir Walter Scott, the work tells the story of the ill-advised, tragic romance between members of two feuding families: Lucia, the daughter of the Lammermoors, and Edgardo, the Master of Ravenswood, who has been banished to exile on Wolf's Crag.
