synopsis
In this quasifictional movie, an independent Scottish filmmaker is attempting to find producers who will fund his first fully "commercial" film, which is titled "Gulf and Western." In order to do this, he is haunting the 1977 Edinburgh Film Festival. Surprisingly, many established filmmakers attending the festival agreed to take improvised roles in this movie, drawing on their own real-life situations as a starting point. John Boorman plays "The Director," Susannah York plays "An Actress," and so on. The film's actual producer plays himself as the man looking for financial backing.
