Synopsis by Mark Deming

Blending the energy of punk, the rootsy sound of country, and the melodicism and conscientious politics of country-rock, the Long Ryders were one of the most exciting bands on the California club circuit in the mid-'80s, and won a large and loyal following in Europe, though they failed to break through to mass popularity in the United States. The Long Ryders: Rockin' at the Roxy -- Live From L.A. features a show recorded in 1986 for television broadcast in Europe, with the band tearing through such tunes as "Looking for Lewis and Clark," "Lights of Downtown," "Capturing the Flag," "Final Wild Son," "State of My Union,""10-5-60," and more. Also included is a five-song solo session by Long Ryders frontman Sid Griffin recorded in 2001.
