Stuart Kirkwood, a rich young miner (House Peters), is about to marry Peggy Carter (Betty Johnson) when she runs off with George Rothwell (Eugene Pallette). But when Peggy discovers that Rothwell is married, she jumps on her horse and gallops away. Rothwell follows, and later they both fall off a cliff and die. In the midst of this trauma, Kirkwood adopts Renee (Louise Huff), a young girl whose father died while helping Kirkwood save mine workers after an explosion. He comes to love Renee, and sends her to school until she is 18. Rothwell's son (J. Parks Jones) falls in love with Renee, and lonely Kirkwood is saddened by this. But Renee returns from school, and the son overhears her talking to the family dog, admitting her love for Kirkwood. Kirkwood and Renee wind up happily together.
