Synopsis by Mark Deming

Ever since his days with Fairport Convention in the late '60s and his string of acclaimed albums with ex-wife Linda Thompson in the 1970s, folk-rock hero Richard Thompson has been a triple-threat talent -- a passionate singer, a gifted songwriter, and one of the most exhilarating guitarists to ever touch a fretboard. In 2001, Thompson was touring in support of his album Mock Tudor when he and his band (including percussionist Michael Jerome and bassist Danny Thompson) recorded a performance for the award-winning PBS music series Austin City Limits. Richard Thompson: Live From Austin, TX features Richard and the band playing a storming 16-song set, which includes several numbers which didn't make it onto their ACL broadcast. Selections include "Cooksferry Queen," "1952 Vincent Black Lightning," "Al Bowlly's in Heaven," "Shoot Out the Lights," "Persuasion," "Ghosts in the Wind," and many more.
