Synopsis by Sarah Ing

In 1927, Charles Lindbergh carved out a place in the history books with an extraordinary flight across the Atlantic. His bold journey in the Spirit of St. Louis is uniquely documented in the 90-minute presentation Lindbergh's Great Race: Are There Any Mechanics Here? Compiled over five years using rare footage and never-before-seen newsreels, the program describes Lindbergh's quest to be the first man to fly from New York to Paris. The wiry pilot competed with many top-notch fliers for the 25,000-dollar Orteig Prize. His odds were slim given six men had already died making an attempt to cross the Atlantic. But, Lindbergh's determination was strong. Not only did he make the 3,600-mile trip in one piece, but he became a navigational superstar in the process. This award-winning video showcases one of the greatest feats of the 20th century. With actual sound recordings and historic pictures, the enthusiasm for Charles Lindbergh translates over time into an appreciation for his rare bravery.
