Synopsis by Jason Buchanan
Filmmaker Demetria Dewald presents a portrait of New York City in 1988, and the artistic movement that was born out of the AIDS crisis after the government and media turned a blind eye to the suffering of the thousands whose lives were destroyed by this deadly epidemic. An illuminating lesson in both art and history, Let the Record Show examines the artistic solidarity that arose among activist groups who were determined to reveal the silent struggles of the marginalized and disenfranchised, as well as the transformative effect that movement had on American culture in the decades to follow.
