Synopsis by Dan Pavlides
This documentary concerns the lives of people on a small island off the coast of Canada. The people speak the language of 16th-century France and can trace their ancestry back to the country. Using handmade wooden boats, the inhabitants soon realize that time and technology are making their simple way of life obsolete. Steel boats from the company replace the wooden boats, and labor unrest threatens to put them all out of business. The group is caught between the union and the government as work is completely halted. Some of the islanders are fortunate enough to travel to France to discover their roots.
