Synopsis by Robert Firsching
Waldemar Wohlfahrt (under the pseudonym "Wal Davis") appears as the legendary Maciste in one of two films shot back-to-back by cult filmmaker Jesus Franco. Unlike the Italian Maciste films of the 1950s and '60s, Wohlfahrt's character is not only less muscular, but exists in the Medieval era rather than ancient Rome. In this exploitative softcore adventure, Maciste is summoned by the magician Cagliostro (Howard Vernon) to travel to an island founded by women who escaped the destruction of Atlantis. The sexually ravenous women, led by a beautiful queen (Marie-France Broquet), are said to devour any man who comes to the island, but Maciste must take the risk in order to free them from an evil curse placed on them by Caronte (Robert Woods), a diabolical knight. Cult devotees will enjoy the attractive cast. Other viewers will find this film incompetent and dull, unlike its entertaining companion, Maciste Contre la Reine des Amazones.
