With a title that translates literaliy as "Conventions and Inconveniences of the Stage," Gaetano Donizetti's highly comedic, two-act dramma giocoso Le convenienze ed inconvenienze teatrali (1827) bears a remarkably postmodern premise: it satirically sends up the opera realm with its chronicle of a highly dysfunctional company and their attempts to mount an elaborate production. This particular version - mounted in 2009 by the Teatro della Fortuna in Fano, Italy - stars Donata D'Annunzio Lombardi as Daria, Enrico Marabelli as Procolo, Paolo Bordogna as Mammí Agata, Stefania Donzelli as Luigia, Anna Caterina Cornacchini as Pipetto and Danilo Formaggia as Guglielmo. The Orchestra sinfonica Gioachino Rossini and the Coro del Teatro della Fortuna lend muscal accompaniment, with Mezio Agostini serving as chorus master and maestro Angelo Biancamano conducting; Roberto Recchia directs for the stage; Salvatore Simone designed the sets; and Serena Magi created the costumes.
