Synopsis by Brian Whitener

Song of the Bloodred Flower is based on a novel by Johannes Linnankoski that has received many film treatments. A likable but difficult drifter moves from place to place, never able to put down roots. While doing so, he becomes involved with a number of women whom he eventually leaves behind. A film that questions the moral contradictions of the Finnish soul, Song of the Bloodred Flower pulls no punches. In questioning the double standard women are held to, the film figuratively renders the plight of modernity, where everyone is adrift in an age without references.
