Synopsis by Rose of Sharon Winter
This video is part of the Landmarks of Faith series that originally appeared on the Odyssey Channel. The series explores America's diverse religious faiths by visiting locations significant to them. In this episode, the focus is on the Presbyterians, who came to America in the 1700s. With the philosophy of John Calvin in mind, the Presbyterians placed special emphasis on a liberal arts education. Princeton was founded as a school for Presbyterian clergy and grew to prominence as a liberal arts college. Host Schuyler Sackett takes the viewer to Princeton's beautiful campus to trace the university's past and present link with the Presbyterian faith. John Witherspoon, Aaron Burr, and Woodrow Wilson all brought their religious training to bear on their leadership of Princeton. The film relates how Princeton then became a model for the founding of other Presbyterian institutions.
