Synopsis by Alice Day
Land of the Eagle Vol. 7: "The First and Last Frontier", from the ongoing series about the impact the European settlers had on the wilderness and native cultures of North America, scrutinizes the colonization of Alaska. The land was originally settled by natives some thousands of years before these outsiders appeared. The Inuits and Tlingit people lived in harmony with a wealth of caribou, seals, and brown bears. But Russian and European hunters, fishermen, and trappers came to take advantage of the abundant wildlife, with no thought of restraint, and disrupted the delicate balance of nature.
