Synopsis by Mark Deming
Filmmaker Anna SanmartĂ offer a unique, visually striking view of traveling in this experimental documentary. La Terra Habitada (aka The Land Inhabited) follows Sanmarti as she takes a trip by rail from St. Petersberg in Russia to Mongolia, passing through a great deal of territory that has still been barely touched by man. As the train makes its way through the countryside en route to a village where the people still ride reindeer, the film focuses on the natural beauty of the surroundings as well as the energy and momentum of the train itself. La Terra Habitada was an official selection at the 2010 Rotterdam International Film Festival.
