Synopsis by Hal Erickson
This melancholy drama stars Germaine Dermos as Jeanne Fortier. Betrayed by her lover, Jeanne loses her home and her children, and as a final insult is falsely branded a criminal. Years later, the heroine is reduced to working as a humble "porteuse de pain" -- a bread-carrier for a local bakery. In this capacity, she is able to foil the latest wicked scheme by the man who betrayed her so long ago. She also manages to secure the future happiness of her daughter, never realizing that the girl is her daughter. Amazingly, there's a happy ending, but it's touch-and-go for most of the proceedings.
