Noted experimental filmmaker Amos Poe created this idiosyncratic adaptation of Dante Alighieri's iconic work The Divine Comedy which fuses sensibilities of past and present. With Dante's 14th Century text used as narration, Poe's visual approach was informed by Edward Muybridge's 19th Century experiments in capturing motion on film through sequential still photography. In La Commedia di Amos Poe, the images are comprised entirely of still photographs, with movement and action suggested by editing and the way they follow one another. Accompanied by music from Phillip Glass, Sonic Youth, Nino Rota, and Ennio Morricone, the film fuses the timeless messages of Dante's writings with cultural signposts of the late 20th Century and beyond. Featuring narration from Carmelo Bene, Roberto Benigni, Sandro Lombardi, and Alfonso Santagata, La Commedia di Amos Poe was an official selection at the 2010 Venice Film Festival.
