Synopsis by Mark Deming
Giacomo Puccini's enduring opera of love and tragedy among a group of footloose bohemians has been captured for home viewing on this video release. In La Bohème, artist Marcello and writer Rodolfo share a flat in Paris's Latin Quarter and struggle to keep body and soul together as they follow their respective muses. Rodolfo falls in love with a beautiful but frail young woman named Mimi, while Marcello renews his romance with Musetta, who has since become the mistress of an older, wealthier man. But Marcello and Musetta's affair proves to be a stormy one, as Rodolfo's love for Mimi, while sincere, is fated to end sadly.
