Synopsis by Nathan Southern
Hartmut Schottler directed this 1997 production of Jacques Offenbach's opera La Belle Hélène at the Zurich Opera House, with Vesselina Kasarova as Helen, Queen of Sparta; Deon Van Der Walt as Paris, Son of King Priam; Carlos Chausson as Calchas, High Priest of Jupiter; and Volker Vogel as Menelaus, King of Sparta. The Chorus and Orchestra of the Zurich Opera House provide musical accompaniment, with Ernst Raffelsberger serving as chorus master and Nikolaus Harnoncourt conducting.
