Synopsis by Dan Pavlides

Cecil Saint Laurent wrote and delivered the commentary for this documentary compiled by Jean Aurel. The Nazi war machine invades Poland in 1939, setting the stage for World War II. When Holland and Belgium are invaded, both the French and British armies are sent to Belgium to stop the Germans. The Nazis defeat the French, and Hitler makes his victorious entrance into Paris, while the British evacuate Dunkirk after heavy casualties to regroup and fight another day. For a refreshing change, this feature does not sidestep some of the strategic military errors of the French that led to the successful Nazi capture of France. Scenes of the Nazi Blitzkreig remain frightening decades after the end of the war.
