Synopsis by Eleanor Mannikka
In this uneven, slow-paced wartime drama, a harping colonel with more bravado than good sense tries to get his war-weary men to gear up for an unrealistic offensive against the Germans. This happens in the last months of the war when the final German defeat seems inevitable and when a section of the Polish army fought against the occupying forces. One of the army adjutants tries to mollify the colonel's ardor but with little success, the man will not listen to reason. Whether or not the colonel's heroics ultimately make a difference in the men underneath him may not matter, since the futility of war itself seems to take center stage.
