Daniel had an affair with Sigal which lasted two years, and those years were the absolute high point of his life. In fact, he has absolutely no understanding of why she broke it off so suddenly, and he is deeply hurt by that fact -- so much so, that he is exploring his entire life from age ten to the present to see if anything in it, including his romantic history, can give him some idea what happened.
