Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Originally filmed in the early 1940s, Kings of the Ring was given a full-scale reissue in 1944. This classic compilation of famous prizefights is written and narrated by Nat Fleischer, reporter for The Ring magazine. Included in the film's 95 minutes are rare filmclips of such past champions as Jack Johnson, Jack Dempsey, Georges Carpentier, Benny Leonard and Joe Louis. Among the highlights are the famous Dempsey-Gene Tunney "long count" and some backstage clowning between Tony Galento and Max Baer. The most harrowing vignette is the death in the ring of Ernie Schaaf at the hands of the benighted Primo Carnera.
