This four-part cable series celebrated the artists who were taking traditional American music in new and exciting directions in the early 21st century. Among the featured artists were Gillian Welch (of O Brother, Where Art Thou? fame), Ralph Stanley, the Black Keys, Joe Firstman, Cory Branan, Shemekia Copeland, T-Model Ford, Robert Randolph, Nickel Creek, Toshi Reagon, and Richard Julian. Individual episode titles included "Pickin' My Religion," "Accoustic Innovators," "Buy This Record," and "The Art of Song." The first half-hour episode of Keeping Time: New Music From America's Roots was originally seen on August 7, 2003.
