Like the other productions in the Just the Facts: World War II series, the events and decisions documented are based on actual events and statistics, and claim not to have a rose-colored or otherwise biased version of history. In The Atomic Bomb -- The End or the Beginning, the focus revolves around America's decision to drop an atomic bomb on another nation, in doing so marking a new and highly controversial method of defense and attack. Among the topics discussed include the the development of the atomic bomb, the role of the B-29 Super Fortress, the Japanese's surrender, and what led to President Truman's fateful decision. Finally, the show examines whether or not dropping the bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki truly was the only way to end the second World War, or if there was a more peaceful alternative.
