Synopsis by Rebecca Flint Marx

Made in association with MTV, Julietta offers viewers a disturbing and honest look at Germany's youth culture through the eyes of its title character. Eighteen-year-old Julietta (Lavinia Wilson) is raped at the Berlin Love Parade while she is drugged and unconscious. Her violation is complicated by the fact that her assailant, Max, also saves her life by carrying her away from a fountain where she would have otherwise drowned. When Julietta regains consciousness, she has no clue that she was raped, and when she subsequently learns that she is pregnant, she assumes the father is her boyfriend, Jiri. The fact that Jiri and Max became friends after the Love Parade doesn't help matters; neither does the fact that both men have emotional attachments to other people. The relationship shared by Julietta and Jiri is a difficult one, and Julietta's feelings toward Jiri are further complicated by a discovery she makes concerning her parents' marriage. Julietta was screened at the 2002 Philadelphia Festival of World Cinema.
