This video features Dame Joan Sutherland, performing arias and duets, with Richard Conrad. They are accompanied by the CBC Orchestra, conducted by Richard Bonynge. One of the great sopranos of her time, Dame Sutherland was born in Sydney, Australia, in 1926; her operatic career began at Convent Garden. With the help of conductor Richard Bonynge, who became her husband, she developed a special repertoire of the bel canto operas of Donizetti and Bellini. In this film, Dame Sutherland pays homage to some of the great divas of the golden age of opera. What makes the film unique is that Dame Sutherland intersperses songs with recollections of the divas with whom the pieces are identified.
