Produced by and starring the son of the real-life outlaw, Jesse James As the Outlaw was a sequel to the earlier Jesse James Under the Black Flag (1921). The story is the familiar "society made me a criminal," told in flashback by Jesse James, whose daughter is about to marry the son of a millionaire. Both films were produced and exhibited outside the normal Hollywood circles.
