Synopsis by Mark Deming

Grateful Dead guitarist Jerry Garcia was a musician who loved nothing more than to play for his fans -- so much so that when he wasn't on tour with the Dead, he often played out with his solo group, the Jerry Garcia Band. Garcia and his band played an unusual gig on September 1, 1990 -- the Grateful Dead were booked to perform at the Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View, CA that evening, but a few days earlier, the Dead's keyboardist, Brent Mydland, was found dead in his home of a drug overdose. The Dead were unable to play the show, but Garcia wanted to pay tribute to his fallen comrade, and performed with his side band that night. The Jerry Garcia Band: Live at Shoreline captures this special concert on home video, and documents two full sets from Garcia and company. Selections include "Deal," "Run for the Roses," "My Sisters and Brothers," "Waiting for a Miracle," "Tangled Up in Blue," "And It Stoned Me," "I Shall Be Released," "Dear Prudence," and more.
