Synopsis by Jason Buchanan

In this release of a performance captured live at the Smithsonian Institution's Baird Auditorium on November 27th, 1981, jazz giant Red Norvo offers live proof of just how he transformed public perception of the xylophone from that of vaudeville novelty plaything to respected jazz instrument by performing an exciting medley of swinging classics. Along with a little help from some old friends including jazz guitarist Tal Farlow and jazz vocalist Mavis Rivers, Norvo taps his way through ten well-loved standards including "Jitterbug Waltz", "When You're Smiling", "The Wave", and "Pennies from Heaven".
