synopsis
Although he was born in a Brussels suburb and grew up in Africa's Belgian Congo, award-winning avant garde singer, poet, and composer Jacques Brel (1929-1978) maintained an ambivalent attitude toward Belgium. The cabaret performer and recording artist was known for such hit songs as "Quand on n'a que l'amour," "La Valse à mille temps," "Jacky," and "J'arrive." This documentary, presented in French, chronicles the artist's life, art, and passions. Highlights include footage of Brel in performance.
